Hi, my name is Wendy I'm the owner/operator of Little Learners Home Preschool and
Daycare.
I became a home child care provider 10 years ago, before that I worked outside the
home for 10 years as well.
I started looking for daycare when I was pregnant with my 3rd child/1st daughter. My
Mother-in-law watched my older tow kids, but when my Father-In-Law retired she
decided she would do the same in caring for her grand kids. So, my search began, and I
did not find a daycare situation that I was satisfied with. How do you leave your child
with someone you don't know? How do you trust them to take care of your child like you
would? How could I leave my newborn with someone, and if something is wrong she
can't tell me? These were all questions I had in my head and I wasn't finding the
answers calmed my fears.
In March of 2004, I was 24 weeks along in my pregnancy with my daughter and had
started having pre-term labor. My doctor had made the decision that I was no longer
able to work without putting the baby and myself at risk, and thought it was best for my
to continue the remainder of my pregnancy at home. While I was not completely on bed
rest my activity was limited, and with the daycare question still in limbo I had
discovered something....one Saturday evening I was caring for my Nieces while they're
parents were out. I had given them a few craft supplies for them to make a project -
whatever they wanted to create. I discovered that evening my love for teaching and
interacting with children. In that moment I had decided what I was going to do, or at
least attempt to do - I would open my own daycare. Perhaps, if I couldn't find what I
was looking for, then I could create what I was looking for and parents find what they
were looking for as well. On May 3rd, 2004 I started watching my first daycare child,
and by the end of the month I was caring for 4 children and had my 3rd child and that
was the start of my daycare and I haven't looked back since.
Fast forward to 2013, my husband and I have been married for 16 years on May 24th,
2013 and together for a total of 23 years. My husband and I met each other at the Blue
Ridge Mall (if you're reading this and the between the ages of 35-45 you know where
that use to be located; however, if you're younger, you're probably thinking, what is
she talking about??) and have been together ever since; like peas and carrots.
We have 4 children; Christopher is 21 years old and living with his girlfriend on his own,
and they have our first grand-dog, Westen. Our Second son, Matthew, 12 years old and
will be going into 7th grade next year. Our 3rd child, 1st daughter, Jilliean, will be 9
years old May 25th and our 4th child, 2nd daughter, Rhiannon, is 6 years old.
We have two dogs; A Yorkshire Terrier named Tasha and a Chi-Yorkie named Prince.
I'm a licensed in-home childcare and currently licensed for 9 children. I'm a participant
in the Food Program through The Family Conservancy. I have a completed background
check, including fingerprints. Completed of 51 clock hours of training and continue to
earn 12 clock hours for licensing in the State of Missouri.
For the City of Independence I have a current Business License, A current Food
Handlers permit, sanitation inspection and fire inspection.
I'm currently earning my Degree in Early Childhood Education and Child Development.
I'm also pursuing Accreditation through the State of Missouri.
